Selective Pressure

The cinnabar moth (Tyria jacobaea) is a French import brought to the Willamette Valley (Kalapuya land) to control the invasive weed tansy ragwort (Senecio jacobaea). The work of Dr. Peter B. McEvoy’s lab has shown that under the selective pressure of its new environment, the cinnabar moth as evolved.

These images are constructed of multiple layers to reflect the subtle changes that lead to evolution of species as well as to encourage viewers to interact with the images, shedding light on peoples’ role in selective pressures, such as climate change, that drive evolutionary change.
